Supporting Veterans is a Seaside Players' fundraiser for American Legion Sterling McClellan Post 142 in Pompano Beach. The event is a staged reading where actors read from a script in front of an audience to convey the story without any sets or costumes.

When veterans bring their wartime experiences to the stage, the public gains a profound perspective on conflict that cannot be captured through headlines or books alone. Live performance also allows audiences to engage emotionally, fostering empathy for the challenges of military service. We think these plays will especially resonate with audiences here in South Florida, which is home to thousands of veterans.

The Seaside Players will hold four staged reading performances in Jarvis Hall in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea on the following dates:

​Our staged reading on Veterans Day at 7PM will follow the Town’s annual Veterans Day event that morning in El Prado Park.

To raise as much money as possible for American Legion Post 142, we are soliciting donations to cover $3,000 in production costs, most of which will be used to compensate each of the 10 veteran playwrights for their scripts ($50 per performance).

How This Came About

 

 

 

 

Propel New Works in conjunction with Theatre for Veterans produced the inaugural staged reading of these 10 plays in April 2026 in Indianapolis. The scripts were developed under the guidance of dramaturg Angeline Larimer, who helps veterans across the country write and develop plays for the stage. Fred Rallo, a U.S. Navy veteran from Fort Lauderdale and a Seaside Players actor and playwright, who authored one of the 10 plays,  took part in that Indianapolis production. Seaside Players', producer Steve d’Oliveira. also attended the event with Fred.
